Cooling screw conveyor for a process industry application designed and manufactured by BEMA. A cooling screw conveyor is a process machine combining 2 functions:

1. Transportation of the media
2. Cooling of the media

Types of cooling possibilities in cooling screw conveyor

1. Jacket cooling of the house. Jacket cooling can be made both of trough screw conveyors and of tubular screw conveyor
2. Cooling of the flights by using the hollow flight principle – double screw flights are used and water is fillied on the hollow space between the 2 flight segments
3. Cooling of the inner tube of the screw conveyor
4. A combination of the 3 different types described above

Method no. 2 gives the most efficient cooling of the material because the flights are in constant contact with the material.

A cooling screw conveyor can be considered as a heat excanger. When calculationg the cooling capacity you can consider the machine as a standard parrallel heat exchanger. The unknown factor is the overall heat transfer coefficient, and this is a coefficient that BEMA is not able to define.

Working with cooling screw conveyors requires technical skills both for the transport, but also for the cooling process. BEMA can assist in the practical design of the cooling screw conveyor, but we depend on the customer knowledge when it comes to process understanding. When BEMA works with cooling screw conveyors, we require to work closely together with the process engineers from the end customers. To make a succesfull product requires to combine expertice from both side.
