Cooling screw conveyor for a process industry application designed and manufactured by BEMA. A cooling screw conveyor is a process machine combining 2 functions:
Method no. 2 gives the most efficient cooling of the material because the flights are in constant contact with the material. A cooling screw conveyor can be considered as a heat excanger. When calculationg the cooling capacity you can consider the machine as a standard parrallel heat exchanger. The unknown factor is the overall heat transfer coefficient, and this is a coefficient that BEMA is not able to define. Working with cooling screw conveyors requires technical skills both for the transport, but also for the cooling process. BEMA can assist in the practical design of the cooling screw conveyor, but we depend on the customer knowledge when it comes to process understanding. When BEMA works with cooling screw conveyors, we require to work closely together with the process engineers from the end customers. To make a succesfull product requires to combine expertice from both side. BEMA has delivered different types of screw conveyors with cooling – you can see 2 examples below: Example – cooling of inner tube of the screw rotor and jacket cooling of through conveyor Example – jacket cooling of tube screw conveyor BEMA can assist in the design of your cooling screw application. We have capabilities to check the cooling calculations and we can manufacture the cooling screw conveyor in accordance with the PED requirements.
A cooling screw conveyor is used to transport and cool process media simultaneously. It functions as both a conveyor and a heat exchanger, making it suitable for industries where controlled temperature reduction is essential for product quality and process stability.
Several cooling principles can be applied: jacket cooling of the trough or tube, hollow‑flight cooling where water circulates inside double flights, inner‑tube cooling, or a combination of these methods. Hollow‑flight cooling provides the highest efficiency due to constant contact with the material.
The cooling effect depends on heat‑transfer conditions that vary with the material and process. BEMA handles the mechanical design, but optimal performance requires close collaboration with the customer’s process engineers to ensure correct calculations, cooling capacity and system integration.
Yes. BEMA supports customers with cooling calculations, design optimisation and manufacturing according to PED requirements. Their experience with multiple cooling configurations ensures a reliable and compliant solution tailored to the specific process.
