The ACTA 4-screw Bale opener for the paper industry – case 31253 is another fine exsample of diversity and customization capabilities of BEMA A/S, designed in collaboration with our clients.

Typically, our ACTA solutions involve light customizations to a semi-standard machine, allowing alterations or additions according to customer requirements, enhancing the machine’s versatility and integration into their unique setup. However, this particular ACTA Bale opener is rather heavily customized due to the specific requirements of the material flow process, and wishes of high capacity.

In close cooperation with the customer, BEMA has developed an ACTA machine with some unique features not found in other ACTA solutions, yet available to anyone who could use such in thir projects as well. Some of the key features include:

• Hydraulic control of the entire backwall of the ACTA to manage the outlet opening.
• A remote control to adjust the hydraulic port.
• An additional filler hopper mounted  on top of the original, for improved inlet loading control.
• An inspection hatch in the extended filler hopper, with a safety switch to stop operations if the hatch is accidentally opened.
• An enhanced gear setup for optimal power and reliability.
• A full control panel with cable in, cable out configuration, featuring a touchscreen and PLC from Siemens, frequency drivers from the gear manufacturer, and PROFINET components, all integrated to control and synchronize the ACTA with the customer’s factory operations.

The functions of this ACTA 4-screw Bale opener

The ACTA 4-screw Bale opener is designed to open and loosen compressed paper bales at a major paper mill in Germany. These bales need to be processed and separated before they are pushed forward into a large pulper tank. A pulper tank’s function is to convert the paper into a pumpable slurry by adding a substantial amount of water and agitating the mixture. This step breaks down the paper fibers and lignin, laying the groundwork for the production of new paper in later phases.

The ACTA bale opener uses four individually screw rotors to work and mix the material inside the bin before pushed under the hydraulic port into the pulper. The customer can control the output flow and the processing duration for each bale by adjusting the backwall port using a remote control. The more the port is opened, the faster the baled material is released.

Furthermore, this ACTA project where a replacement of an older ACTA model at the customer’s facility, highlighting the high levels of customer satisfaction with ACTA products and their desire to continue a strong and good cooperation for more years to come.
