Trough screw conveyors for ash – 18850

Trough screw conveyors delivered for transporting cooled ash. Ash can in general be abrasive. But if the ash is cooled down it will be much less abrasive.

The screw rotors for the trough conveyors are designed with paddle screw flights.

The screw conveyor inlets are supplied with pneumatic gate valves which makes it possible to fully empty the screw conveyor after operation.

Why are paddle screw flights used in screw conveyors for ash?

1. Paddle screw flights are efficient to handle lumps in the ash
2. A paddle screw flight can break lumps into minor pieces
3. Screw rotors with paddle screw flights will create a small material layer between the end of the screw flight and the screw conveyor housing

Design considerations for trough screw conveyors for ash

1. Ensure low filling degree – 10-15% for ash screw conveyors
2. A low filling degree significantly increases the lifetime of the screw conveyor
3. Consider paddle screw design of the screw flights – see another example of a screw rotor with paddle design here
4. If the ash is abrasive consider Hardox screw flights. If the screw conveyor is inclined consider screw flights with chrome carbide
5. If the ash is not tempered consider heat tracing of the screw conveyor housing

A well designed screw rotor for ash will have a lifetime of 6-10 years. Poor designed screw rotors can have a lifetime of less than 1 year.
