FULL STEAM AHEAD AT BEMA A/S

The air is getting colder, the shadows sharper – and the fruit trees on the lawn in front of BEMA are starting to bear ripe fruit. All signs that autumn is upon us – and with that, the beginning of new, busy times. Join us for a tour of the news at BEMA and get an overview of where you can meet us at some of the autumn trade fairs.

BEMA A/S AND ANDERS PEDERSEN MACHINE & SPECIAL FACTORY A/S ARE JOINING FORCES

We are proud to announce that we have just acquired one of our valued colleagues, Anders Pedersen Machine & Special Factory A/S (APMS). With this acquisition, we are creating the country’s largest company specializing in screw conveyor solutions for the industrial market.

The owner of APMS, Arild Pedersen, is approaching the retirement age and wished to transfer ownership of his business. Both he and we quickly recognized that joining forces would be an ideal solution. The screw conveyor industry is small and specialized, requiring significant resources for development and ensuring a modern production setup to meet the needs of even the most demanding industries. With this acquisition, we can streamline production and make optimal use of our combined expertise. This will allow us to create an even stronger platform for developing, manufacturing, and selling both components and complete screw conveyors to the broad industrial market.

Over the next 1 to 1½ years, we will consolidate development, sales, and production at BEMA in Haderslev, where we currently have 65 employees. In the meantime, APMS will continue its operations as usual with its 20 employees in Barrit near Juelsminde, with Arild remaining as director. He will also assist in the upcoming merger process.

FIRE-SAFE PIPE SCREW CONVEYORS FOR WOOD FIBERS

For one of our customers in Sweden, we have delivered a highly specialized solution that includes three stainless steel screw conveyors. Each screw is between four and five meters long and is designed to meet exceptionally stringent fire safety requirements. The screws will be used for transporting wood fibers, so it is crucial that neither sparks nor friction heat can arise, which could lead to flames or explosions in this flammable material.

The screws are made from AISI 316 steel. Notably, they must be ATEX-20 certified by an external inspection company such as the Danish Technological Institute and must comply with the requirements classified as ATEX zone 20 internally and zone 22 externally in the equipment. ATEX-20 is a regulatory requirement concerning classification and safety in areas where explosive atmospheres may exist.

This necessitates a high level of specialized knowledge and documentation from BEMA, and we are proud to have been selected among several local and international manufacturers.

FROM WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION…

We are in the process of implementing a new invoicing system, which will bring some changes to how invoices should be sent to us. We will, of course, provide more information directly to all suppliers once everything is up and running. However, we can already announce that a new email address for invoices will be established, and they should be sent as PDFs.

The system can automatically verify if our purchase orders match the invoices. If everything is in order, they will automatically proceed to bookkeeping and payment. In other cases, it will be easier to conduct checks, and the goal is to free up resources so we can become more efficient and increase our capacity, which we will likely need in the coming years.

While others take a break, our installers are hard at work. Everyone at BEMA is fully engaged after a well-deserved summer vacation—production is in full swing and buzzing with activity once again. However, we could not collectively take time off during the summer, as many of our customers often use this period for major renovations of their facilities. It’s often the only time production can be halted, allowing for new parts to be installed or replaced.

During the summer vacation, we dispatched three teams for five different assembly tasks in weeks 27, 28, and 29, both domestically and internationally. So, while customers are on break, we are on site ensuring that everything is ready for when they return.
