Raw material silo for powder for building materials designed and manufactured by BEMA.
When production of building materials needs to be expanded, it places high demands on capacity, operational reliability, and flexible integration into existing installations. This case describes a complete 170 m³ raw material silo that BEMA has designed, produced, delivered, and erected at the customer’s site. The silo is developed for handling powdered raw materials and forms a central part of a new silo installation in an already established factory.

Powder for building materials — such as fillers, binders, or mineral ingredients — places specific demands on storage and transport. The materials can be dusty, abrasive, and sensitive to moisture, and therefore require a silo that combines robust construction with controlled process handling.
BEMA’s solution is developed specifically for these conditions. The silo is manufactured in carbon steel, providing high strength and long service life, and it is surface-treated according to the customer’s specifications to ensure optimal resistance to environmental impacts.

One of the key elements of this silo is the integrated penthouse at the top. The penthouse unit functions as a technical platform where filters, process equipment, and material connections are all gathered in one place.
This solution provides several advantages:
For production involving powder for building materials, this results in more stable operation, fewer stoppages, and significantly improved handling of dusty materials.
As the silo was to be integrated into an already established production facility, it was essential that installation could be carried out quickly and without extensive modifications. Therefore, the silo was delivered with a bottom flange, allowing it to be bolted directly onto the customer’s existing foundation. This significantly reduced installation time and made it possible to integrate the silo without disrupting daily operations.
In addition to design and production, BEMA also handled the complete erection of the silo at the customer’s site. This included coordination of lifting, placement on the foundation, adaptation to existing installations, and ensuring correct installation of the penthouse, filter, and process equipment. By allowing BEMA to handle both construction and onsite installation, the customer received a complete solution with a single responsible partner — and an installation carried out safely, efficiently, and in close dialogue with the factory’s operational staff.
Powder for building materials can be harsh on equipment, and therefore the silo’s construction is dimensioned to withstand both mechanical loads and wear from the materials. The static calculation ensures that the silo complies with all relevant safety and load requirements.
The combination of strong materials, correct dimensioning, and a well-executed surface treatment provides a solution built for many years of operation in a demanding production environment.
The customer received a raw material silo that combines large capacity, high operational reliability, and efficient integration into the existing installation. The integrated penthouse solution makes the installation compact and service-friendly, while the robust construction ensures stable operation — even when handling abrasive and dusty powder materials. With BEMA as the total supplier and responsible for onsite installation, the customer received a complete, reliable, and future-proof solution that supports continued business growth.
