What key points to look for when you work with intermediate bearings in a horizontal screw conveyor?

1. Check that the material cannot enter the intermediate bearing and create wear
2. In case of dusty materials, it is necessary to make a closed housing round the intermediate bearing
3. Be aware that an intermediate bearing needs more maintenance in terms of greasing compared to normal bearings on the outside of the horizontal screw conveyor
4. Design the horizontal screw conveyor with a low filling degree – below 20%

In the actual project BEMA has designed a combination of horizontal screw conveyors in combination with inclined tubular screw conveyors for potato starch. Potato starch is a food ingredient, and the requirements from the food directive needs to be followed.

1. All materials used are stainless steel 1.4301
2. All weldings 100%
3. All surfaces have been acid pickled after welding
4. Dead areas inside the horizontal screw conveyor has been avoided
