What can the engineering department help with?

BEMA’s engineering department possesses all relevant technical competencies as well as highly educated technical personnel at all levels. This provides our customers with many advantages:

  • We can ensure that our customer receives a technically correct solution. This may sound simple, but our customers are subject to a range of requirements, including legislative requirements. All of these must be fulfilled if the chosen solution is to comply with all requirements regarding technical specifications, safety, etc.
  • We can help clarify all legislative requirements associated with the individual screw conveyor solution. For example:
    • Specifications ensuring that the solution complies with all safety requirements and requirements set out in the Machinery Directive.
    • Ensuring that the solution is correct and complies with all welding requirements. This is of great importance to a number of industries, not least the food industry.
    • We ensure that the screw conveyor solution complies with ATEX requirements.
    • We can ensure that all requirements regarding hygienic properties are fulfilled.
    • And we ensure that the equipment complies with all requirements of the PED Directive.

Our equipment

BEMA has invested in all relevant equipment that contributes to optimising the engineering process:

  • 3D CAD, Autodesk Inventor. Advanced and essential design tools.
  • Scanning camera. Used for measuring the final location where the equipment is to be installed. The accuracy of the scans most often ensures that the equipment can be installed without further modifications and directly from our test setup.
  • We have various technical software programs used for technical calculations.

Many customers do not have the opportunity to employ their own engineers capable of defining and designing screw conveyor and rotor solutions. This requires specialised expertise that is often not possible to maintain in-house. This is where BEMA’s engineering department comes into play.

We are often involved in projects once the customer has defined all surrounding equipment required for a process involving screw rotors. However, it is often a significant advantage to involve us already during the planning phase. The earlier we become involved, the more actively we can contribute with proposals for plant design and installation. We can often create far more innovative, operationally optimised and efficient solutions when screw rotors are considered from the earliest ideas through to the completion of the project.

Although screw conveyors can trace their roots back to Ancient Greece, when Archimedes invented the screw pump for moving water, and are often regarded as a basic technology, creating the optimal solution for rotor conveying is today a highly specialised discipline.

      • Pressure testing of pressure-retaining equipment. Many screw conveying solutions include process elements where the equipment is exposed to pressure, for example during cooking, processing or size reduction.
      • Surface inspection of equipment subject to hygiene requirements. This applies, for example, to equipment used in the food industry, where the correct process equipment is crucial to the final product quality.
